Roadside elements are your instruments and cars are the players.

Share your island for others to view and listen to and rise up the daily, weekly and monthly charts to earn Game Center achievements!

The two main activities in Isle of Tune are creating an island or viewing shared islands.

When creating an island you can add roads, cars and roadside objects like houses, trees and sign-posts to construct a tune.

Changing the sound of a roadside object

When you have completed an island you can share it with others to view (you will need to be logged into a Game Center account to enable sharing).

Tap the ‘Tools’ button top right of the screen, then ‘Share island’ to enter your island name and any additional information you would like the other users to know about your tune (your Game Center name will display as the author) then tap ‘Share’ to unleash it on the world! Other users around the world can now view and rate your island.

Note: You won’t be able to change a shared island once it’s out there – but you can of course go back and make changes to a saved island and share again.

You will also have the opportunity to share your island directly with Game Center friends to show off your completed tune!

Note: Your Game Center friends will need the Isle of Tune App in order to view your island.

Saving and loading
You can save multiple islands for future work, tap ‘tools’ and ‘save’ or ‘save as’.

You can search, view and rate both types of islands from the ‘Browse’ menu.

To rate an island click the up or down arrows next to the title. You are of course free to rate any way you wish, but remember people put a lot of work into their islands, and they in turn will rate yours so be encouraging!

If your Game Center friend has shared an island directly with you, a notification will show up next to the Browse button. Friend’s islands will appear in the ‘Friends’ section of the browse menu.

Note: You will need an internet connection to browse and view shared islands

Setting road delays
An important aspect of building complex tunes is timing the cars movement to the beat. Use the ‘traffic light’ option to pause moving cars for set periods of time. Tap on any road piece to bring up the road options then tap on the traffic light ‘go’ button to toggle through the choices. A number will appear on the piece on the road indicating the length of delay when a car passes on it.

Setting a road delay

Changing car speed
Each car can drive at one of three speeds: normal, 2X speed or half speed. Tap on a car (best to do when they are not moving!) to bring up the car options at the bottom right of the screen. Tap the green ‘speed’ button to toggle through the speed options. The car will change colour according to the set speed.

Other car options
The other car options allow you to quickly change a car’s position and direction.

Changing the direction of road junctions
When roads intersect at a junction you can set the direction you would like cars to go when they pass over. Tap on a junction (marked by a crossroads ‘X’ symbol) to bring up the options and tap the the circle of arrows symbol to change direction.

Changing the tone of instrument sounds
Before starting a new island you choose a ‘tone’. The four seasons each use a different selection of notes available for the instrument sounds to give a different feel. You can also switch between tones during or after the creation of an island by clicking on the green keyboard tone button in the tools menu.

You can also switch to keyboard mode which gives you access to a full 2 octave series of notes like a piano keyboard.

Keyboard mode

We are constantly looking at ways to improve Isle of Tune so feedback, comments and questions are welcome! Catch us on Twitter and facebook

Current Issues

Although we do our best to ensure every bug has been squashed before release, some unfortunately slip through. Here are the known problems that users have had with the app and we are in the process of fixing:

Bug: Unable to edit map
In general use, it is sometimes possible to get the app into a state where you are unable to edit the map. We are working on this problem and it will be fixed in our next update. For now the only way to get around this problem is to reset the app. See below about resetting the app.

Bug: Car driving onto grass
It is possible in some circumstances to get the car to drive onto the grass. This bug will be fixed in a our next update. In the meantime, to stop this from happening simply delete and re-place the car.

Bug: No sound plays
If you are hearing no audio from the device’s speakers (but can when headphones are plugged in) check the mute side switch (next the volume buttons) is not switched on.

Resetting the app
If the worse happens and you are unlucky enough to find one of the rare bugs in the app, resetting the app may help. To do this follow these instructions.

iOS 4.0 and above
Please read and follow these instructions carefully. Failure to do so may result in you accidentally deleting apps from your iPad.

1) Exit the app you are in
2) Double-click the Home button. The most recently used apps appear at the bottom of the screen.

3) Touch and hold the Isle of Tune app icon until the icons jiggle about and a small – (minus) appears in the corner of the icon.

4) Touch the – (minus) in the corner of the Isle of Tune icon so that the icon disappears.
5) Press the home button again to exit and go back to the home screen

iOS 3.2 up to iOS 3.9
1) Exit any app you are in
2) Press and hold both the power and home buttons of your iPad until the “slide to power off” option appears.
3) Touch and slide the “slide to power off” button
4) After your iPad has powered down. Press and hold the power button until it boots up again.

You can now run Isle of Tune again.
